Memphis Residential Internet Coverage

As one of the largest cities in Tennessee and a major tourist attraction, Memphis needs constant access to high-speed internet. There are two primary internet service providers in this community.

AT&T offers DSL service and a growing fiber network. Fiber is a developing technology, so access may increase in coming years. AT&T DSL is available at every point in Memphis. Running along the western edge of the city, covered neighborhoods include Shelby Forest, Frayser, downtown, White Haven, and Coro Lake. The coverage area runs east to eastern neighborhoods like Southward, River Oaks, Kirby, Eads, and Fisherville.

Throughout Memphis, cable service is available through Xfinity. All of the main neighborhoods in Memphis are in the Xfinity service area. Some centrally located neighborhoods in the service area are Cordova, Raleigh, Midtown, Berclair, and East Memphis. Southern neighborhoods in both coverage areas include Coro Lake, Hickory Ridge, South Riverdale, and Windyke.

Satellite:

Satellite internet is widely available, but offers slower speeds due to a far-traveling signal.

Fiber:

Fiber relies on glass strands to relay digital code and is much faster than both DSL and cable.

The service has been slow from the beginning and never met the advertised transfer rate. The repair process is frustrating with multiple calls required and long wait times. I have been without internet for weeks right through the holidays. It was “fixed” and now it is out again with more weeks waiting for them to even troubleshoot.
