Overview of internet satisfaction and availability in Utah

Utah has surprisingly good internet, especially along the Wasatch Front. Both Provo and Salt Lake were early Google Fiber cities and much of Google Fiber’s recent expansion has also been in the state. Several towns have also invested in municipal broadband projects, creating options that are both fast and cheap. Other providers have built out their fiber and cable networks to compete, giving Utahns a wide range of incredibly fast options.

Rural areas in South and Central Utah have less access to fiber connections, though even medium-sized cities like Cedar City still have access to cable providers like Xfinity. For those that live in very rural areas, there are a number of fixed wireless providers like Rise Broadband that have coverage throughout much of the state.

Internet providers received an average satisfaction rating of 4 out of 5 stars from customers in Utah.

That ranks Utah 3rd nationwide for internet customer satisfaction.

Utah FAQs

Which is the best internet provider in Utah?

Google Fiber is an easy choice, if it’s available in your area, though there are also local fiber options like Utopia and XMission that offer even higher speeds. Other fiber providers like AT&T and EarthLink are available in some areas, both or which have received high marks over the years on our annual customer satisfaction survey.

For smaller towns without wired options, we recommend T-Mobile’s 5G Home internet. Satellite is also available, but most satellite plans are much more expensive than T-Mobile internet.

What options are available in rural Utah?

Utah’s ultra-fast fiber networks don’t extend into some of the more rural areas, so many small towns have somewhat limited options. Cable connections like Xfinity are the next best option if they’re in your area. If you don’t have access to any wired networks, you can always turn to satellite networks like HughesNet, Viasat, and Starlink, and terrestrial wireless networks like T-Mobile or Rise Broadband are still options.
